F-01 · CONFLICTSpec §3.03, p.5 ↔ Sheet A-601
The finish schedule never states a sheen for PT-1 - the spec requires eggshell.
Spec §3.03 Color Schedule calls Room 101 walls as BM OC-17 "White Dove," eggshell. Drawing A-601's finish legend defines PT-1 = BM OC-17 but is silent on sheen. If your crew paints from the drawing set, sheen is a coin flip - and a repaint order if the architect meant eggshell everywhere.
Action: raise it before you submit - RFI-001 below is drafted and ready to send.
EXCERPT · SHEET A-601 · ROOM FINISH SCHEDULEMAPLE STREET RETAIL RENOVATION
| ROOM | NAME | WALLS | FINISH | SHEEN | CEILING |
| 101 | SALES | PT-1 | BM OC-17 | — | ACT-1 |
| 102 | STOCK | PT-2 | BM HC-172 | — | EXPOSED |
| 103 | OFFICE | PT-3 | BM 2121-10 | — | ACT-1 |
↖ sheen column empty for every room - spec §3.03 says eggshell. RFI-001.
Schedule excerpt recreated from the fictional drawing set, with the review markup exactly as it appears in your report.
F-02 · SCOPE TRAPSpec §1.02, p.2 ↔ Sheet A-602 Door Schedule
Door 101A is stain-grade, "DO NOT PAINT" - but the spec scope says "all interior wood surfaces."
The door schedule on A-602 marks Door 101A (3'-0" × 7'-0", wood) as stain grade, DO NOT PAINT, while §1.02 includes all interior wood in the painting scope. A painter bidding from the spec alone paints that door - and eats the replacement.
Action: add an exclusion line to your submittal cover: "Door 101A excluded - stain grade per A-602." One sentence now, one saved door later.
EXCERPT · SHEET A-602 · DOOR SCHEDULEMAPLE STREET RETAIL RENOVATION
| DOOR | SIZE | MATERIAL | FINISH | REMARKS |
| 101A | 3-0 × 7-0 | WOOD | STAIN GRADE | DO NOT PAINT |
| 102A | 3-0 × 7-0 | HM | PAINT | SEMI-GLOSS TO MATCH FRAME |
| 103A | 3-0 × 7-0 | WOOD | PAINT GRADE | PT-3 COLOR |
↖ conflicts with spec §1.02 "all interior wood surfaces" - exclude on your cover sheet.
F-03 · MISSING DOCUMENTSpec §2.01.B, p.3
No primer product data sheet in the package.
§2.01.B requires manufacturer's data for each coating product. The package includes the finish-coat data sheet only. This is the exact line a reviewer stamps "Revise and Resubmit" over - not because the primer is wrong, but because its paper isn't there.
Action: add the primer data sheet before submitting. Two minutes now versus three weeks of resubmittal cycle.
VERIFIED · 4 CHECKS CLEAN§3.02-3.03 ↔ A-601 ↔ product data
What already agrees - so you don't re-check it.
✓ PT-1 color BM OC-17 matches between spec §3.03 and the A-601 legend · ✓ three-coat system (1 primer + 2 finish) per §3.02.A-B stated on the data sheet · ✓ minimum application temperature 50°F (§3.02.C) within product limits · ✓ 1.5 mils DFT per coat listed and compliant.
Drafted for you: the RFI
RFI-001 · READY TO SEND
- To
- Architect of record
- Subject
- Sheen designation for paint types PT-1 through PT-3
- Question
- Room Finish Schedule (A-601) defines PT-1 through PT-3 by color only. Specification 09 91 00 §3.03 states eggshell for Room 101 walls. Please confirm the required sheen for each paint type, all rooms, so the schedule and specification can be read consistently.

- Sheet A-601; Spec 09 91 00 §3.03, p.5
- Cost/schedule
- No impact if answered before mobilization.
Recommendations
- Send RFI-001 today. Sheen ambiguity is the most common repaint driver on interiors; the answer costs the architect one sentence.
- Add the primer data sheet and the Door 101A exclusion, then submit - the package passes the checklist with those two additions.
- Hold Room 101 painting until RFI-001 returns, if the schedule forces early finishes.
